Kochi: The first phase of the illustrious SmartCity Kochi project will be completed in 18 to 22 months if everything goes according to plan, said Abdullatif AlMulla, the Chief Business Development Officer of Dubai Holding and Vice Chairman of SmartCity Kochi.

He was speaking to the media in Kochi on Tuesday after unveiling the sketch of the first phase of the SmartCity project. AlMulla also said the project had the full support of the state and union governments. “I am satisfied with the progress of the works.

Also, the officials here are doing a fantastic job,” he added. Baju George, the Managing Director of SmartCity Kochi, said the project was in top gear. “The pre-construction works have begun on Monday. The project will get its environment clearance on July 6,” George said.

The first phase envisages a 1,00,000 square feet platinum rated building, which was approved by SmartCity officials. According to Sankey Prasad, the chairman of Synergy Property Development Services, the first block would have only 32 percent ground space but would cover the option to divide the floor for multiple tenants.

“The building’s efficiency will be among the highest in the world,” Prasad added. Synergy group is the project manager of SmartCity Kochi. Robert Marshall, the Global Director of B+H Architects in Toronto, will lead the construction of the first phase. Gigo Joseph, the CEO of SmartCity Kochi, was also present.
The test piling to examine the strata of the ground has already been started at the SmartCity location, while the full fledged piling will begin after the environment clearance. Baju George also said the road to the project would be developed as the building works progress.

Abdullatif AlMulla said his vision was to finish the full project in 5.5 years.
